Carley, my twelve year old daughter and I, spoke at a Ladies meeting this month. We tag-teamed the devotional. It was so special to share the Bible lesson with her. Her boldness for Christ inspires me daily. Together, we spoke about what it means to be filled up as Christians.
When we are filled up, we are ready to pour into someone else--to add value to them. It means we are conscious of the people around us whether it's a family member, a co-worker or the fast-food drive-thru person. It's helping them meet a need, even if it's just an encouraging word or a simple smile.
It's hard to pour into others when our pitcher is empty, right? Sometimes we get so busy or preoccupied and soon we realize we are depleted.
(We gave away these cute pitchers I found at TJMaxx.)
The good news is we serve a God that endlessly supplies us with all the necessary things we need. Praise the Lord!
Four of things that Carley and I spoke about the Bible speaks of us to be filled with:
Goodness- To show any good to others, we must be filled with God's goodness.
Romans 15:14 (KJV) And I myself also am persuaded of you, my brethren, that ye also are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, able also to admonish one another
Gladness- He fills our heart with gladness. Attitude is everything. (Carley talked about this point!)
Psalm 4:7-8 (KJV) Thou hast put gladness in my heart, More than in the time that their corn and their wine increased. I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: For thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
Knowledge- We need to know what we believe and keep His Word fresh on our mind so that we can be a ready witness.
Romans 15:14 (KJV) And I myself also am persuaded of you, my brethren, that ye also are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, able also to admonish one another.
The Spirit- When we are filled with the Holy Spirit we have boldness to help and serve others.
Acts 4:31 (KJV) And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.
There are many other good things we can fill up on. (I've attached a word study download at the bottom if you are interested in further study!)
Also, if you are interest in more of the concept of Show Up Filled up, check out Kary Oberbrunner's latest book. It's a life changer.
